festival fragment 1

24 Jan 2011 / 0 Comments / in Australia, News/by cloudcontrol

In Busselton, WA, the jellystingers in the ocean all passed a motion to welcome us to Southbound Festival. They also got Sam from The Jezabels but he took it like Bear Grylls.

The 40 degree heat was hot like a hairdryer in our face, hot like a handbag and a can a mace. Jeremy indulged a heat coma on the grass and was prodded by security and there were rumours that Heidi died in a hot car. Nonetheless a great group of people gathered for us under the midday fire-ball sun. Total troopers.

Al tried to reward them with a waterbottle to the head and miraculously they stuck around for our whole set. If you were there that day, melting along with us, maximum respect!

Peaches taught the crowd that it was a good thing to be confused and played a great cover of Tina Turner’s Private Dancer. Paul Kelly demonstrated why he’s a living legend, and Pond demonstrated that Nick from Tame Impala, resplendent in feathered head gear, is well on his way.

Later we privately serenaded some competition winners with a couple of songs. We thought it could be weird, but they were great and we were great and here’s some photos.

The Lexington Experience

27 Nov 2010 / 0 Comments / in News, UK/Europe/by cloudcontrol

Oh what a night do do do-do. Yes I’m talkin’ ’bout the Lexington show last week because, well let me tell you… In and among our support slot touring duties we’d scheduled one night at a great pub to put on our one and only proper headline show. We’d been doing a handful of press in the lead up- singing here, posing there- but we had no idea whether anyone would actually show up on the night and give our manager G someone to talk to.
When the night arrived, London put on a moderate display of blustery wind and rain, but still the good people came and brought with them a great deal of warmth and good will.

Not to mention 50 buttery cupcakes!
(see: http://what-laura-made.blogspot.com/2010/11/cloud-control.html).

The venue filled right up and all present were treated to two of the best solo performers we’ve witnessed in a long while. Arresting vocals, lone instruments; frailty and power. Think I’m being dramatic? There’s only one way to do this, please lend an ear:

Jacob Fletcher ~ http://www.jacobfletcher.co.uk/

Marques Toliver ~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzBM34cEyUU

If the music of these men doesn’t turn heads very soon, the whole world must be mad. But that night at the Lexington the whole room was held captive. Deep breath. Jump around the room. Hearty pep talk… and we managed to reassemble our exposed hearts in time to deliver our tunes on stage to a welcoming crowd.

If you were there, big fat many thanks! If you weren’t, you have listening homework (see above). And if you’re a band that happened to play the venue a few weeks earlier, and happened to leave a stuffed toy frog on top of a speaker, we may or may not have confiscated said frog for deportation to Australia.
No apologies x heidi

Communion: Holy nights

19 Nov 2010 / 0 Comments / in News, UK/Europe/by cloudcontrol

Back in the UK with a subtle Irish accents, we started a new headline tour based around a great little indie /folk night called “Communion” which is run by one of the guys associated with Mumford and Sons. The perfect small venue gig – with tonnes of great bands. The nights’ being semi folk orientated meant instruments with foreign names, oodles of great melodies, small stages, oh and the terminal babes.

THURS 4TH: Mr Wolfs – Bristol

One thing that stands out about the Communion nights is our friendly the whole operation is…Free noodles upon arrival, friendly people and a “TOO LOUD” noisometer that seemed stuck in the red from all the feeling we were putting into our set. Feeling in music comes from closing ones eyes whilst playing. Fact.

Mr Wolfs was jammed packed with locals, dancing which came to discovered would be the nature of all these gigs.

SUN 7TH: Notting Hill Arts Club – London

Surprised by one of our manager’s Joel who we hadn’t seen in 6 months due to his own Europe adventures, we found him looing all Bruce Willis like and as usual, loving life. The Notting Hill Arts Club is really a lamp lit underground bunker that has more vibe than you might think from the bleak description. Encore of Pursuit Of Happiness…..sunday night is the new every night out.

Wed 10TH: The Prince Albert – Brighton

We’ve played in Brighton a few times in the last couple of years but The Prince Albert has got it all happening. Tom the promoter gave us more free food so we ordered large (see below) and hanging out with a German promoter Henning who we recently met out in Australia for the One Movement festival and he came all the way from ahhhh well, Germany to be there. Committed. He is a great guy.

It’s also becoming a regular feature of UK trips to watch x files episodes late at night in the van on the drive home. Tonight’s episode featured a freaky guy called Tooms who is basically made of playdough and can squeeze through air conditioning ducts and is attracted to good looking 90′s female FBI agents.

So there ends a 3 show tour – we can now happily say we’ve played Communion. There definitely is a good little community spirit noticeable at all shows. Thanks to all the crews who looked after us, it was a great little run!

Ire-Land

Next stop on our UK trip: Ireland. For me, this means the motherland as most of my family is Irish. Actually I’m Irish, even though until now I had never stepped foot on Irish shores. Irish Irish Irish. Anyway, it felt good. Oh yeah, and it was halloween.

We played in sunny Belfast (see: joke) and had our first chat with the Temper Trap who turned out to be lovely chaps. Somehow we ended up at a stranger’s 21st birthday party afterwards where everyone wanted photos with us because they thought we were in the Temper Trap.

More soon!

The England Times

Look! We found the internet. Time to tell you what we’ve been up to I guess. First off we had a couple of shows with tame impala. They attracted lots of Noels – like Noel Fielding and Noel Gallagher. I’m not sure how many other Noels made it to the show but probably loads. Apart from that they somehow managed to make their incredible guitar sounds translate live which made me feel that I should invest in a whole bunch more guitar pedals. But what chances do I have to afford more pedals when our manager is this joker?

Just kidding G, you are the best.
